Using iPads for Teaching and Learning

The iPad has proven itself to be a powerful tool for teaching and learning in the classroom; but configuring them for use — especially as a shared device — can be complicated. We have seen the power that mobile devices can provide in our learning environments: as a tool to document learning; as a device to share the events of the day through our blogging platform; as a means to create rich multimedia objects that students can use to express their learning; and as a assistive technology tool to help all of our students reach their full potential.

In order to ensure that school staff can spend their time teaching, the IIT Department, along with the 21st Century Learning Team, have devised a framework to manage iOS devices that requires little configuration on the part of the school staff. These structures allow for seamless management of a core suite of apps selected to take advantage of the iPad as a tool to augment, modify, and redefine what is possible in the classroom.
